2010 Summer Reading Program

2010 Summer Reading“Read to Feed: Mind and Heart”

Children, teens and parents are invited to experience the power of reading to unlock their personal potential and the well being of the community during the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library’s 2010 Summer Reading Program, "Read to Feed: Mind and Heart."

Beginning Monday, June 7 and continuing through Saturday, July 31, summer readers can not only participate in activities in which families can read together and individuals can earn points to exchange for prizes. But they also have an opportunity to support the work of program partner Gleaners Food Bank. By donating a non-perishable food item, participants will earn 20 Summer Reading Program points. Readers can also donate 20 points so that grocery partner The Kroger Company will make a contribution on their behalf. It’s part of the "can-do cause" to build a stronger, healthier Indianapolis and help with hunger relief.

Sign up for the Summer Reading Program at any IMCPL branch or Central Library and receive a Point Card. Points earned for all levels of reading activity can be exchanged for great prizes. Local organizations that have donated prizes include The Children’s Museum Guild Haunted House, Chili’s, Indianapolis Indians, Indiana Fever, Royal Pin Leisure Centers, and IMAX/Indiana State Museum.

Another way for teens to get involved is to become Reading Giants. They can earn points, a cool baseball cap and a $25 gift card by serving as volunteers in reading aloud to younger children at the library. Reading Giants is made possible through the generous support of Kroger.

The IMCPL Foundation is the proud sponsor of the 91st annual Summer Reading Program. This year’s Presenting Sponsor is Comcast Foundation. Supporting Sponsors are 92.3 WTTS Indianapolis; The R.B. Annis Educational Foundation; Carrier Corporation; Chase; Citizens Energy Group; W.C. Griffith Foundation Trust; Indiana Blood Center; Kroger; The Library Fund, a fund of The Indianapolis Foundation; Lilly Endowment Inc.; Ruth Lilly Philanthropic Foundation; Toysmith; and United Water.
