"Family Fall Fest" and "Faithful Readers" Presented at Glendale Branch
The Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library’s African-American History Committee invites families and individuals of all ages to two free special events on Saturday, November 12 beginning at 11 a.m. at the Glendale Mall and the Glendale Branch Library, 6101 N. Keystone Avenue.
The "Family Fall Fest: A Celebration of Music . . . Make a Joyful Noise!" will feature music, dance, storytelling and crafts.
The day’s events begin at 11 a.m. with a Maracas craft program for children presented by Tony Artis in the branch auditorium.
Beginning at 11:30 a.m. on the Main Stage in the Glendale Mall, there will be performances by the Drums of West Africa, Khabir the Storyteller, recording artists "The Team," and various church and school gospel choirs. Emcee will be Donavan Hartwell of WTLC-AM 1310 The Light.
"Family Fall Fest" is sponsored by Safeco Insurance.
At 3 p.m., the Library will formally introduce its "Faithful Readers" initiative during a public reception in the Glendale Branch auditorium. The Library has formed partnerships with several local churches to introduce their members to various programs and services that promote reading.
Churches which have piloted this program will be honored with special awards. These include the Eastern Star Church/Jewel Christian Academy, Jesus Saves the Lighthouse Church, NU Corinthian Baptist Church, and St. Luke Baptist Church.
The "Faithful Readers" reception is sponsored by Amica Insurance and will include refreshments and music by pianist Bruce Polson.
